Long Lake Provincial Park is located within the Halifax Municipal Region. It's a popular spot for hiking, jogging, swimming, and kayaking. Most of them have no idea that the park was essential to building Halifax with its granite, lumber, and drinking water.
As an exercise, we had the opportunity to develop a system of interpretive signage to tell the story of Halifax's many parks. My system design revolves around the theme of "reliance". Not only had Halifax relied upon this land to grow the city we know today, but the land now relies on us to keep it clean and healthy. "Reliance" helped influence every design decision, from the construction of the signage to the type of content displayed upon it. The full system includes three styles on interpretive signage, parking lot entry signs, and themed lamp posts for the parking lot and main pathways.
